East Lansing basketball star Aazh Nye finds there’s no place like home

EAST LANSING, Mich. —Aazh Nye has moved around a lot in her brief high school career. She is just a junior, but she has yet to attend the same high school for two consecutive years. Now, however, she seems to have found a home in East Lansing.

Nye, a guard, began her high school career in East Lansing, but transferred to Alabama for her sophomore year, citing basketball as the main reason for moving. 

MSU Women Fall to Purdue Marking Third Straight Loss

The MSU women's basketball team lost to Purdue, 76-66, on Alumni Day Sunday night at the Breslin Center. The Spartans have lost three-straight games for the first time since the 2014-15 season. MSU is now 13-7 overall and 3-4 in Big Ten action. Purdue improves to 13-8 overall and 4-3 in league play.

Jankoska leads by effort and example

Over six years ago, Tori Jankoska committed to play for Suzy Merchant and the Michigan State women’s basketball team. She was 15, going into her sophomore year at Freeland High School, but she always knew she wanted to play and help MSU reach the highest level.

The 2016-17 MSU women's basketball team brings back two starters from last year in junior guard Branndais Agee and senior guard Tori Jankoska. With so much turnover coming into the new season, the team took a Summer trip to Europe that focused on building team chemistry.

Suzy Merchant and the 2015-16 MSU Women's Basketball Team has depth, talent, and a ton of youth. They are coming off a year in which they were hampered with injuries. They've learned from that experience and look forward to putting the past in the past.

Aerial Powers scored 18 points and matched a career-high with 18 rebounds for her 20th double-double of the season to help Michigan State upset cold-shooting No. 19 Rutgers 60-50 Sunday.

Powers has now scored 600 points this season, breaking the school's single-season scoring record.

Rutgers (20-7, 11-5 Big Ten) falls into a three-way tie with Minnesota and Ohio State for third place in the conference. Michigan State (13-14, 5-11) is now 2-7 against ranked opponents this season.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – For the typical college senior, the last few months of school are haunted with one concern: get a job. Usually, this time is dedicated to gaining experience before graduation.

 Aerial Powers had 16 points and 11 boards for the Michigan State women's basketball team in a close loss to No. 22 Iowa Sunday.The Spartans kept the high-powered Hawkeye offense (79.8 points a game) in check but couldn't come up with a final key play down the stretch. Suzy Merchant's team falls to 9-9, 1-6 in the Big Ten.

WKAR's Al Martin reports from the Breslin Center on the Michigan State loss to Notre Dame. The Spartans fell, 71 to 63, to a top five team in the Fighting Irish, going toe to toe and competing throughout the game. The motivation behind the gritty outing?
