Mark Colson has been a professor with the MSU Department of Theatre for 6 years and still visits stages like the Williamston Theatre, Chelsea’s Purple Rose Theatre, as well making TV appearances in 'Parks and Recreation,' 'Banshee,' and 'Mad Men.' But this summer, he’s taking MSU’s Summer Circle Theatre on the road, but without ever leaving campus.

A play inspired by legendary Detroit Tigers play-by-play man Ernie Harwell is coming to East Lansing. "Ernie" was written by author and Detroit Free Press columnist Mitch Albom. It opens at MSU's Wharton Center on August 19th. Current State contributor Russ White talks with the actor portraying Harwell, Peter Carey.


From "The Giving Tree" to "Falling Up," Shel Silverstein’s books have entertained generations of kids with their absurd humor and whimsical illustrations. But Silverstein didn’t just write children’s books. He also wrote short stories and plays geared toward a decidedly more adult audience.

The annual outdoor theatre season at Michigan State University Summer Circle Theatre opens this week. It’s an exciting time for the MSU Theatre department because Summer Circle will be staged for the first time on the newly-constructed Summer Circle Courtyard stage next to Fairchild Theatre.
