Last night, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder gave his fourth State of the State address. He encouraged action on immigration and more support for state schools, among other issues.

The first campaign ad in the race for Michigan governor will start airing Wednesday.

Governor Rick Snyder is calling on state Senate Republicans to return to Lansing. That’s after the Senate adjourned for its summer recess without voting on a Medicaid expansion under the new federal healthcare law.

Today is the final day of the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Mackinac Policy Conference.  Michigan education and the economy have dominated the sessions.  

From the island, Gov. Rick Snyder shares his thoughts on the issues discussed at the annual gathering.

Governor Rick Snyder calls his “Governor’s Economic Summit," which begins today in Detroit, a “centerpiece event” for 2013.  Over the next day and a half at Cobo Center,  the Governor is bringing together private sector employers and workforce developers to determine Michigan’s future hiring needs.  He plans a follow-up summit with educators in April to align the effort. Governor Snyder shares more details. 

From the controversial decision over a Detroit emergency manager, to the politics of road funding, to a call by Democrats to make college tuition available to all state high school graduates, Governor Rick Snyder had a lot going late last week.  Current State host Mark Bashore managed, however, to get the Governor for a few minutes by phone for a quick update on all these issues.

On Wednesday, Governor Rick Snyder ordered a review of how Michigan delivers mental health services.  Among other issues, commissions headed by Lt. Governor Brian Calley will focus on how to close the gap for people who need help but end up in jail instead.

Bob Sheehan, executive director of Community Mental Health of Lansing, discusses mental health challenges in mid-Michigan and what he thinks the review needs to address.
