Every year, thousands of people from around the state and elsewhere visit a museum in the Lansing area: the state of Michigan Historical Museum downtown perhaps, or the dynamic new Broad Art Museum in East Lansing are two that come to mind.
Michigan State University Art and Art History professor Susan Bandes has run a student project this year examining notable architecture in East Lansing. The focus has been on homes and businesses built between 1940 and 1970.
Soon a little piece of Detroit’s history will join the marquees on Broadway. "Motown the Musical" will debut in New York in April. If you can’t make it to Broadway, you can find the story of Motown on display at the Motown Museum. WKAR’s Scott Pohl toured the museum with president and CEO of the Motown Museum, Allen Rawls.
An exhibit by Val Berryman, called “The Art of Christmas," is on display at the Williamston Depot Museum. Berryman is curator of history at the Michigan State University Museum. He’s been collecting vintage Christmas decorations, figurines and illustrations since 1984. Berryman tells WKAR’s Gretchen Millich that for this exhibit, he chose some favorites from his personal collection.
