MSU roller hockey produces teams and results

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Demonstration Hall on Michigan State’s campus is used for a lot of activities. During the day, you may see indoor soccer classes playing on the plastic floor surrounded by hockey-style boards, or the color guard practicing their flag spinning.

If you stop by at 10 p.m. though, you’ll see 12 men on rollerblades, five without shirts on, two in goalie masks, with hockey sticks in-hand, passing a plastic puck.

Despite the Western Michigan Broncos pulling to within 10 points in the fourth quarter, Michigan State was able to hang on and top the Broncos, 37-24 at Waldo Stadium.

The stigma of mental illness can make it difficult for students struggling on college campuses to seek help. But both students and administrators across the country are trying to change that. Current State talks to two of the members of the mental health advocacy group Active Minds at MSU as well as Dr. Victor Schwartz, medical director for the JED Foundation, a national organization focused on campus mental health and suicide prevention.
