EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men’s tennis team had their first home dual met of the season Saturday, and came away with a pair of 7-0 victories over Toledo and Detroit Mercy at the MSU Tennis Center.

With three players earning double-doubles, the Michigan State women's basketball team captured its first Big Ten win with a 63-56 win over Illinois Thursday at the Breslin Center. In the midst of such a rocky start to the conference season, the Spartan's are still staying positive. WKAR's Al Martin reports from the Breslin Center on how this team is planning a "U-Turn" as the season rolls on.

Voters in Michigan will elect members of the governing boards of Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and Wayne State University on November 4th. At MSU, incumbent democrats George Perles and Faylene Owen are running to keep their seats for another eight years. Republicans have nominated Melanie Foster and Jeff Sakwa; Foster was on the board for ten years, but lost her bid for re-election two years ago, and Sakwa also ran unsuccessfully in 2012. There also are candidates from the Green, Libertarian, U.S. Taxpayers and Natural Law parties on the ballot.

Summer is the time of year when newly minted college graduates are pounding the pavement to grab that first job of their careers. One Michigan State University graduate is trampling a much softer surface: the fairway.

Last month it was announced that Michigan State University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center had received an anonymous gift of $1 million. The gift has been called the Support Outreach Action and Respect Fund (SOAR). It’s the largest donation in the history of Michigan State University’s LGBT resource center.

One of the biggest developments in world economies in recent years has been Supply Chain Management. Wikipedia defines “supply chain” as a system of organizations, people, activities, information, and resources involved in moving a product or service from supplier to costumer.

Last month, a federal judge sentenced a 90 year old Indiana man to three years in prison for his role in transporting more than 1,200 kilograms of cocaine into Michigan. The man’s age spurred new attention to an old problem.  Illegal drug trafficking is an ongoing epidemic across the United States. Now, a Michigan State University professor has created a new way to track the flow of cocaine into the country.

It was inevitable that Current State caught the buzz about Beepalooza. The free bee education event is this Sunday at Michigan State University’s Horticulture Demonstration Gardens. The main question is, why do we need to be educated about bees?

“One in five women is sexually assaulted in college.” That’s the opening statement in a 20-page report released by the White House last week to address the epidemic of sexual assault on our nation’s college campuses. Last week, the U.S. Department of Education also revealed the names of the 55 colleges and universities that the agency is investigating for how they handle sexual assault complaints. As we know, the University of Michigan and Michigan State University were on that list.

At MSU, the Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) helps international students navigate school in the U.S. For over a decade Peter Briggs has served as the Director of OISS. Briggs is retiring this fall.

A new study in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology is the first to show that brain activity is actually different between positive and negative thinkers, so just telling someone to try and see the glass as half-full isn’t going to help them do it.
