The ACLU was in a Detroit courtroom Monday seeking an order to protect a group of Iraqi detainees from threats and coercion from immigration agents. Capital Bureau Chief Rick Pluta has more.

A federal judge in Detroit will hear arguments today about alleged strong-arm tactics against Iraqi detainees.

The ACLU has asked a federal judge to release hundreds of Iraqis who are being detained by immigration authorities. Michigan Public Radio’s Rick Pluta reports the Iraqis are fighting deportation orders.

There are reports from family members and the ACLU that as many as 50 Iraqi immigrants who are being detained while they fight deportation are engaged in a hunger strike. Many of the detainees are from metro Detroit and are being held at a federal facility in Youngstown-Ohio.
