MSU Men's Tennis Tops Toledo and Detroit | Current Sports | WKAR

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men’s tennis team had their first home dual met of the season Saturday, and came away with a pair of 7-0 victories over Toledo and Detroit Mercy at the MSU Tennis Center.

Denzel Valentine had 25 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, and Michigan State held rival Michigan scoreless in overtime, outlasting the Wolverines 76-66 on Sunday.

 Aerial Powers had 16 points and 11 boards for the Michigan State women's basketball team in a close loss to No. 22 Iowa Sunday.The Spartans kept the high-powered Hawkeye offense (79.8 points a game) in check but couldn't come up with a final key play down the stretch. Suzy Merchant's team falls to 9-9, 1-6 in the Big Ten.

Michigan State cruises to a 79-52 win over Santa Clara at the Breslin Center on November 24th. Gavin Schilling had career highs of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Marvin Clark Jr., starting in place of Branden Dawson - out with the flu - had 15 points and four blocked shots for the Spartans (3-1), who never trailed and built a 40-14 halftime lead. Denzel Valentine added 13 points and 11 rebounds.

WKAR's Al Martin wraps-up MSU's Big Ten opening win over Nebraska at Spartan Stadium. The Spartans topped the Cornhuskers, 27 to 22.  Following MSU's win to open the Big Ten season, the Spartans moved up to No. 8 in both The Associated Press Poll and Amway Coaches Poll. The No. 8/8 Spartans (4-1, 1-0) will now hit the road to take on Purdue (3-3, 1-1) Saturday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m. in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The Spartan football team is basking in the glow of an impressive regular season: 11-1, and the prospect of going to its first Rose Bowl since 1988.  Current State’s Mark Bashore and Current Sports host Al Martin look back to Saturday’s game and ahead to the Big Ten conference championship game Saturday night against Ohio State.
