We all know Michiganians we feel are extraordinary for their memorable life experiences or their sacrifices. Maybe for their success, or their service, and for the insights that result from those experiences. Getting better acquainted with extraordinary people is the focus of Current State’s occasional series, “Voices of Experience.”Over the years, Michigan’s gotten to know Joe Schwarz in many roles: State Legislator, U.S. Congressman, Gubernatorial candidate and others. But there’s a lot more. At age 77, he still practices medicine in his hometown, Battle Creek, and his medical and political accomplishments as an adult came following years as a combat surgeon in Vietnam and with the CIA in Southeast Asia.
Current State's Mark Bashore talks with former Congressman Joe Schwarz about his life.
