Verlander, Greinke matched in Tigers-Royals opener

By AP

KANSAS CITY, MO – Hits and runs may be hard to find Monday afternoon in Kansas City.

Opening the season for Detroit will be right-hander Justin Verlander, who won 19 games last season and led all major league pitchers with 269 strikeouts. Opposing him for the Royals will be Zack Greinke, who won the 2009 Cy Young Award as the best pitcher in the American League.

Verlander has always seemed to love facing the Royals. He's 9-2 against them with an ERA of 2.32. Greinke has also had plenty of luck against Detroit, compiling a 9-4 record with an ERA of 2.86.
