Dewitt's Nicole Carter and MSU student Olivia Demarest are on opposite sides of the presidential ticket, but come together on the importance of one issue - education.

MI First Election reporter Ally Hamzey spoke with the two Lansing area voters about issues of importance for election 2016.

MI First Election brings together student reporters and media professionals to form Michigan’s largest election team, covering state and local issues affecting first-time voters. MI First Election is a project of the School of Journalism at Michigan State University, with production and editorial support from WKAR Public Media. The J-School and WKAR are units of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at MSU.

Together we’ve already reduced WKAR’s $1.6 million budget gap created by the loss of federal funding. With your sustaining support we can close the remaining $500,000 gap and keep trusted public media strong for mid-Michigan. The best way to support WKAR is to become a sustainer. Already a sustainer?
