State: Tainted egg recall now involves Michigan

By AP

LANSING, MI – The Michigan Department of Agriculture says some of the eggs associated with a nationwide recall have made their way to the state.

The department said Tuesday afternoon that the investigation into where eggs were distributed continues. The eggs weren't sold directly to Michigan customers, but some food distributors that were customers sold the eggs to Michigan locations.

More than 500 million eggs have been recalled in the nationwide investigation of a salmonella outbreak. The outbreak has sickened more than 1,000 people.

No illnesses had been reported to the Michigan Department of Community Health as of early Tuesday.

Iowa's Hillandale Farms and Wright County Egg are recalling eggs.
