Slain MSU student honored at pickup game with NHL star

MSU student Andrew Singler was murdered two years ago. On Saturday, he will be remembered at a pick-up hockey game featuring NHL star Jack Johnson. Current State’s Scott Pohl talks with Justin Spiro about the Andrew Singler Memorial Cup.

Two years ago, the East Lansing community was trying to understand a tragedy.  Andrew Singler, a 23-year old Michigan State University student from Rochester, Michigan was stabbed to death in Meridian Township. His girlfriend’s brother, Connor McCowan, was convicted of second degree murder and handed a prison sentence of 20 to 60 years.

An event this weekend will remember him in a way he would have loved: a pickup hockey game.

The game is the brainchild of Justin Spiro. This is different from your typical pick-up game, though, in that Spiro's best friend will play: that’s NHL star Jack Johnson.
