U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan

U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan is troubled by many aspects of the budget President Donald Trump has sent to Congress, notably the elimination of Great Lakes protection funding. “Overall," she says, "this budget makes no sense from a Michigan standpoint.”

The Senator continues "you start with zeroing out any dollars to help us protect the Great Lakes...they also gut conservation through the Farm Bill."

She adds that the cuts in Agriculture spending "would make it impossible to get a five-year Farm Bill...and the Farm Bill is up for renewal next year."

Asked if she's found anything to like in this budget proposal, Stabenow mentions that the budget addresses security, "which is something I certainly support," adding that "they do it in a way that takes investments out of everything else that involves a growing economy. They basically have decided that other than security, which we all support, they want to put all the dollars into another round of tax cuts for multi-millionaires and billionaires at the expense of the majority of Michigan families and communities. That's not going to create jobs and grow the economy."

Scott Pohl has maintained an on-call schedule reporting for WKAR following his retirement after 36 years on the air at the station.
