The campaign of Michigan Republican attorney general candidate Bill Schuette has agreed to stop airing a campaign ad after the parents of a Flint police officer who died during a 2005 chase said it was "disrespectful."

The television ad criticized Democratic candidate David Leyton for how he handled charges in Officer Owen Fisher's death as Genesee County prosecutor.

Schuette spokesman Rusty Hills says he spoke with a family member Wednesday and the ad was pulled that day.

David and Vida Fisher say in a statement released Thursday by the Leyton campaign that they were "saddened and disappointed" by the ad. They also say the ad twists the facts and that they were satisfied with Leyton's actions.

The ad said Leyton plea bargained down the "open and shut case."
