The Republican Governors Association is running another ad against Democratic gubernatorial candidate Virg Bernero, this one questioning spending by the Lansing mayor.

The 30-second ad says Bernero spent about $4,000 during his five years in office on personalized pencils and maintaining an office aquarium. It also says he spent $20,000 on food.

Bernero campaign spokesman Cullen Schwarz said Monday the food was for official city events. Bernero's predecessor David Hollister installed the fish tank, which is popular with visiting students.

Schwarz says Bernero has cut his pay and health care, given up his city car and reduced his office budget every year.

The ad ends by saying Republican Rick Snyder's fiscal responsibility plan is "priceless."
