There are reports that long-time Michigan State University Trustee Joel Ferguson will not be on the ballot in November.
Ferguson was first elected to the MSU board of trustees in 1986, and has been re-elected three times. The wealthy Lansing developer is a past chairman of the university’s board. He’s known for his deep ties to prominent civil rights figures like Jesse Jackson, along with Spartan athletics.
The Gongwer News Service is reporting that Ferguson says he will not seek another eight-year term.
Democrats are expected to re-nominate trustee Brian Mosallam for another term next week. The Lansing City Pulse reports that the party’s other nominee for the board will likely be Dr. Rema Reynolds Vassar, a Detroit-area educator.
Ferguson has been criticized by ReClaimMSU, the support network surrounding Larry Nassar sexual assault survivors at MSU.
Ferguson has not responded to a request for comment.
