Michigan’s 2017 Roads and Bridges Annual Report indicates a continuing and worsening statewide struggle against potholes.
The report indicates that there was more pavement in poor condition in 2017 when compared with the prior year.
Joanna Johnson is president of the County Road Association of Michigan, and she chairs the Transportation Asset Management Council. "The number of miles on the federal aid system that are in poor condition," she says, "are now equal to the number of miles that are in fair condition.”
The report also indicates that bridges in Michigan are getting worse, too. Nearly twice as many bridges declined in condition compared to those that were improved.
Johnson says the conditions of 17% of Michigan roads have improved, and a lot of investment in road repairs is on the way.
