Rep. Sheltrown announces he will run for Stupak's seat

LANSING, MI –

A state lawmaker has thrown his hat in the ring in the race for Democrat Bart Stupak's congressional seat. Stupak announced his retirement last week.

State Representative Joel Sheltrown is the second Democrat to announce he will run for Stupak's seat. Sheltrown is abandoning his campaign for the state Senate to run for Congress. He says he can better serve the interests of Northern Michigan in Washington D.C.

"A leader doesn't operate out of fear," he says. "And some may look at this and Oh, it's a huge district and it's a lot of work,' and I'm up for the challenge."

There is a handful of Republicans who have announced candidacies. for Stupak's congressional seat. Stupak says he plans to fight to keep the seat Democratic.
