WKAR Family produces new video series on STEM vocabulary development through reading.

The first video, Reading Aloud with Kids Gets Results, encourages reading aloud with children as a great way to jump-start their literacy development. Books introduce new words children do not know and reading a book out loud with children gives caregivers the opportunity to explain those words, which boosts vocabulary skills.

Further celebrate the power of reading this summer with a series of events and activities hosted by WKAR and The Great American Read. The Great American Read is an eight-part series, hosted by Meredith Vieira, that explores and celebrates the power of reading, told through the prism of America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey). It investigates how and why writers create their fictional worlds, how we as readers are affected by these stories, and what these 100 different books have to say about our diverse nation and our shared human experience.
