Okemos "boil water" alert remains in effect

By Mark Bashore, WKAR News

OKEMOS, MI –
Meridian Township officials say a "boil water" alert remains in effect until Midnight Thursday for the township's southside. The alert advises boiling water for drinking and cooking for five minutes before use. It does not apply to water used for bathing or laundry.

It covers township water customers south of Kinawa Drive and Bennett Road, including customers who live in Aleidon Township.

The alert is a precautionary measure triggered after an error made during routine testing of the system Wednesday. The mistake led Okemos school officials to close Okemos High School yesterday.

Residents can check the township's website at www.meridian.mi.us for updates.

WKAR’s first live pledge drive since federal funding was eliminated is happening now. Our goal for the drive is $60,000 and reaching it will bring us one step closer to closing the federal funding gap.
