Officials: Mich. children remain at-risk of H1N1

By AP

DETROIT –

Michigan health officials say more than half of the state's youngest children remain at risk of contracting H1N1 because they have not received a second dose of the vaccine required to ward off the virus.

Michigan Department of Community Health officials say children 10 years old and younger are most at risk. Health officials say 334,745 children age 10 and under have received at least one dose of H1N1 vaccine. Of those, 148,239 have received two doses.

State health official Pat Vranesich tells The Detroit News that the department is working with local health departments to locate children who need the second dose or the complete vaccination.

The News says that since September, 2,128 people in Michigan stricken with H1N1 have been hospitalized and 78 have died.
