No Bridge cards at casinos, says MI Senate

By Laura Weber, Michigan Public Radio Network

LANSING, MI –
People with Bridge cards may soon be prohibited from using the welfare debit cards to make cash withdrawals at Detroit casino ATMs. The state Senate approved a measure that would prohibit the Bridge-card withdrawals.

State Senator Bill Hardiman says one of the Detroit casinos has already allowed for $87,000 to be withdrawn with the cards.

"We don't know how much has been dispensed from the other ATMs, casinos, at this point and time," he says. "But we just think that's the wrong way to use that."

Hardiman says the measure would not prevent people from making cash withdraws at other ATMs.

WKAR’s first live pledge drive since federal funding was eliminated is happening now. Our goal for the drive is $60,000 and reaching it will bring us one step closer to closing the federal funding gap.
