In 2014, federal officials investigated MSU’s response to campus sexual harassment and assault. They ordered reforms. Last September, the federal government wrapped up a four-year investigation into how Michigan State University handles complaints of sexual harassment and assault. Though the university had begun reforms before the final report, the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights cited MSU for noncompliant grievance procedures. It also said the school took too long to respond to reports of sexual assault and harassment. It suggested the result was a sexually hostile environment on campus for numerous students and staff.
Today, Michigan State’s efforts to create a more responsive system and a safer campus continue.
