Thousands of members of an elite Boy Scouting organization called the Order of the Arrow are on the MSU campus this week. Current State’s Scott Pohl talks with Order of the Arrow team leader Clyde Mayer about their emphasis on serving others.

If you’re on the MSU campus or in East Lansing this week, you’re sure to see boy scout uniforms everywhere. 15,000 members of the Order of the Arrow are here for training, for fun, and for some public service. As an example, on Friday morning, MSU will conduct a massive evacuation drill on campus, and thousands of these scouts will be walking from residence halls to Spartan Stadium, creating a lot of foot traffic for everybody involved in the exercise.

Current State's Scott Pohl talks with Order of the Arrow team leader Clyde Mayer, along the banks of the Red Cedar River.

Scott Pohl is a general assignment news reporter and produces news features and interviews. He is also an alternate local host on NPR's "Morning Edition."
