MSU enrollment close to last year's total

By Scott Pohl, WKAR

EAST LANSING, MI –

A preliminary report on enrollment at Michigan State University shows about 47,200 students are on campus this year.

Provost Kim Wilcox told MSU Trustees today that enrollment stayed close to last year's figures.

"We're able, we're fortunate to have a continuing interest in the university," Wilcox says. "You saw almost 27,000 applicants, so there's students that are eager to come and study here. There's a faculty support system that's in place, so maintaining that is really what our focus is."

Of those 27,000 applicants, 7,200 were accepted and have enrolled at MSU for the first time.

Wilcox says Michigan residents make up just over 80% of of the entering class.
