Mich. GOP to host 2 debates for governor hopefuls

By AP

LANSING, MI –

The Michigan Republican Party will host a pair of debates this summer featuring four of the five GOP gubernatorial candidates.

The party said in a statement Thursday the debates will be held June 24 in Grand Rapids and July 13 in Rochester.

Expected to take part are Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, Attorney General Mike Cox, state Sen. Tom George and U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra.

Former Gateway CEO Rick Snyder is the other Republican candidate for governor.

Campaign spokesman Jake Suski says Snyder agreed to take part in two of the four party-hosted debates this year. Snyder already attended one in April and had planned to be at a debate later this month that was canceled.
