Mich. GOP gov. candidate George to file signatures

By AP

LANSING, MI –

State Sen. Tom George is getting ready to turn in his petitions to get on the Republican gubernatorial ballot for Michigan.

The anesthesiologist from Kalamazoo County's Texas Township said Friday in a press release that he'll file his petitions Monday with the secretary of state's office. Tuesday is the deadline to file to get on the Aug. 3 primary ballot.

Republican candidates Rick Snyder, Mike Cox and Pete Hoekstra already have filed their signatures, leaving only George and Mike Bouchard to file next week.

Democratic candidates Andy Dillon and Virg Bernero also have filed their petitions, while Democratic Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith has not.

Gubernatorial candidates must submit at least 15,000 valid signatures to qualify for the primary ballot.
