A Michigan Supreme Court justice running for re-election acknowledges using the N-word during a private conference with other justices in 2006.
Robert Young Jr. responded Friday after former Justice Elizabeth Weaver gave a speech this week accusing him of using the racial slur. She says it shows why he doesn't deserve another term on the court.
Young, who is black, tells The Associated Press that he used it during an "impassioned plea" to emphasize how someone was being treated "without dignity." He couldn't recall details.
Weaver says in the speech that Young used the slur while discussing a judicial candidate. She declined to comment Friday while golfing. The two regularly clashed while Weaver was on the court. She quit in August.
