Man who killed 2 in Owosso gets life sentence

By AP

CORUNNA, MI –

A trucker has been sentenced to life in prison for the drive-by killing of an abortion protester and the fatal shooting of a businessman in a mid-Michigan community.

Harlan Drake apologized before getting his punishment Thursday in Shiawasee County Circuit Court, about 25 miles northeast of Lansing. The life sentence was automatic under Michigan law.

Judge Gerald Lostracco said he wished he had the authority to also order "hard labor." Drake appeared bored and impatient as the judge spoke and said, "let's get on with this."

He called the judge a "racist" and a "hypocrite."

A daughter and granddaughter of anti-abortion activist James Pouillon talked about their loss. The judge also heard from a brother of the second victim, Mike Fuoss.
