Lansing Homeschoolers Defeat Okemos for QuizBusters Grand Championship

In a QuizBusters championship series of games seen on WKAR-TV on Saturday, April 25, the Lansing Homeschoolers Chargers defeated the Quincy Orioles and the Okemos Chieftains to take home the title of QuizBusters Grand Champion for 2015. 

In the first of three games, the Green Division Final, the Okemos Chieftains narrowly defeated the Ionia Bulldogs by a score of 450 to 440 to move on to the final game.

In the White Division Final, the Lansing Homeschoolers Chargers defeated the Quincy Orioles by a score of 430 to 200 to move on to the Grand Championship match-up.

In the final game of the season, the Grand Championship, the Lansing Homeschoolers Chargers defeated the defending champion Okemos Chieftains by a score of 390 to 310.

Playing on the team for the 2015 Grand Championship Lansing Homeschoolers Chargers were Nic Roberts, Derek Edwards, Isaac Van Loh and team captain Lily Van Loh. Jeffrey Winter is the team advisor.

Playing on the team for the Okemos Chieftains were Netra Murthy, Kevin Bi, Ravi Betzig and team captain Scott MacGuidwin. Andy Floyd is the team advisor.

Playing on the team for the Ionia Bulldogs were Emily Rozich, Jarred Chrapek, Austin Armentrout and team captain Will Talbot. Steve Cairns is the team advisor.

Playing on the team for the Quincy Orioles were Joseph Oberlitner, Shane Tribble, Adam Oberlitner and team captain Tyler Powell. Kevin Paradine is the team advisor.

The two Division Championship teams each receive up to four $5,000 tuition scholarships to Michigan State University. The Grand Champion team receives five one-year textbook scholarships provided by the Student Book Store.

Teams are divided into Green and White Divisions based on the size of the school, with the largest schools in the competition making up the Green Division, smaller schools in the White Division.

High school students from over 60 Michigan schools have been seen competing on WKAR-TV since October to reach the QuizBusters Championship Series.
