LANSING, MI – Lansing residents and businesses could get a new snow removal ordinance this winter. The city council is holding a public hearing on the plan tonight.
City officials hope the new plan would get public sidewalks in front of businesses and foreclosed homes cleared more often. Under the current plan a property owners is given a ticket if the snow isn't removed within 24 hours.
Lansing public service Director Chad Gamble says the new ordinance allows the city to clear the snow and bill the property owner for the cost.
The city would charge $161 plus man hours to clear snow. Unpaid bills would be placed as tax liens on the property. The ordinance could take effect by the end of the month.
