A Lansing area credit union will begin offering services tailored to striking UAW members on Thursday.

Services being offered to people affected by the strike against GM include free credit counseling, debt consolidation advice, and refinancing options.

Kelli Ellsworth Etchison of LAFCU says membership in the credit union is required, but pre-strike membership isn’t required. "If someone is not a member, they work at GM, they’re impacted by the strike, they want to join LAFCU," she explains, "they can certainly join us.”

LAFCU is offering a strike loan of just under 7-percent for 24 months.

The credit union was founded 83 years ago by autoworkers.

LAFCU is a financial supporter of WKAR.

Scott Pohl has maintained an on-call schedule reporting for WKAR following his retirement after 36 years on the air at the station.
