Kalamazoo County Re-Count To Begin December 8

wtvf.com

Candidates and campaigns that are unhappy with the results of the November elections have until Wednesday afternoon to ask for recounts.

We have more from The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Rick Pluta.

The Board of State Canvassers certified the election results, which starts the clock on re-count requests. Democrat Sean McCann says there were problems with voter lists and voting machines in Kalamazoo County, and he wants a recount. He lost a state Senate race to Republican Margaret O’Brien by 59 votes.

Chris Thomas directs the state Bureau of Elections. He says the process should take about three days.

“In Michigan, we hand count as opposed to running them back through a machine,” he says. “Everybody’s eyes get to look at each ballot, and we’ll come up with new totals at the end.”

That will be in early December. Recounts in local races and ballot questions are handled by city or county elections officials.
