Growing up Green

Students gathered around

New documentary explores Great Lakes place-based education | Mon. Apr. 14 - 11:30pm WKAR HD  |

This new documentary explores how schools across Michigan are engaging students with their communities and stewardship of our Great Lakes and natural resources.

Growing Up Green profiles a unique statewide, hands-on environmental education program in Michigan, the Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative. For the very first time, both rural and urban schools across the state are working to increase academic performance by involving students in local efforts to improve the environments they inhabit.

From Houghton in the U.P. to Alpena, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Detroit, international filmmaker Bob Gliner spent several weeks filming with schools, community partners and student-led Great Lakes stewardship projects to highlight the wide reaching and in-depth place-based education efforts currently underway among schools and communities across Michigan.
