Genesee Co. Democrats run ad promoting Bernero

By AP

LANSING, MI –

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Virg Bernero is getting some campaign help from a TV ad run by the Genesee County Democratic Party.

The Lansing mayor hasn't aired any ads yet, while Democratic rival Andy Dillon has run two.

Third-party groups are allowed to run so-called issue ads as long as they don't advocate voting for a certain candidate.

The 30-second ad is scheduled to run statewide for seven days. The group didn't say if it will run on cable or broadcast stations, or how much it's spending to air the ad.

The ad praises Bernero for bringing new jobs to Lansing and criticizes Dillon for working for a company that cut jobs.

The Dillon campaign calls the ad "a jumbled mess of distorted attacks and negative spin."
