DETROIT – Emergency financial manager Robert Bobb will discuss the state of the Detroit Public Schools and release a new academic plan to the community.
Targets to decrease the district's dropout rate and improve Michigan Educational Assessment Program test scores will be discussed during Monday night's program at Renaissance High School.
Bobb says in a release that the plan "significantly raises the bar for academic rigor at all levels."
Gov. Jennifer Granholm appointed Bobb last March to straighten out the district's poor finances. He says the district is facing a deficit of at least $219 million.
Enrollment has dropped to 84,000 students. Bobb closed 29 buildings before the start of fall classes and is expected to close more this year.
