EPA fines Alro Steel $120k

By Mark Bashore, WKAR

EAST LANSING, MI –

Jackson-based Alro Steel will pay a $120,000 fine for failing to disclose information about hazardous chemicals at four of its facilities, including one in Lansing.

Federal law requires companies give state and local authorities an inventory of its hazardous chemicals. Environmental Protection Agency officials say in case of a fire or other emergency, responders need to know about chemicals for public safety purposes. Alro's Lansing location is at 1800 West Willow Street.

WKAR’s first live pledge drive since federal funding was eliminated is happening now. Our goal for the drive is $60,000 and reaching it will bring us one step closer to closing the federal funding gap.
