The mayor of East Lansing says she supports a proposal to sell a parcel of land downtown to the MSU Federal Credit Union.
An item on the agenda for tonight’s council meeting would put a land sale measure on the presidential primary election ballot on March 10th.
The credit union hopes to buy the land on the northwest corner of Abbot Road and Albert Street, currently a parking lot next to the Dublin Square Irish Pub and Restaurant.
Mayor Ruth Beier says she strongly supports the sale. “We’ve been trying to get office users downtown," states Beier. "It’s the piece that we’re missing.”

The businesses that are there are looking for daytime traffic that’s there all year round, and also, the people who live there are looking for real jobs and a real future, and MSU Federal Credit Union will provide that. East Lansing Mayor Ruth Beier
The new building would be five to eight stories tall, and would replace the MSUFCU branch currently in leased space on Grand River Avenue.The land is appraised at $810,000.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the city hall council chambers.
