East Lansing to consider teacher layoffs

By Scott Pohl, WKAR News

EAST LANSING, MI – As many as 12 teachers in East Lansing could get layoff notices following Monday's meeting of the Board of Education.

The Lansing State Journal has reported that the layoffs would take effect January 4th.

The Board will consider granting the authority to issue layoff notices to superintendent David Chapin, as required by union contract.

State funding cuts have put East Lansing schools in the position of needing to trim $2 million from this year's budget.

Tonight's meeting begins at 7 p. m. at the board room at 841 Timberlane in East Lansing.
