By AP

ANN ARBOR, MI –

Eastern Michigan University says a 22-year-old student has died of injuries following an early-morning fire that gutted a rental home in Ann Arbor and injured two other people.

The school in nearby Ypsilanti said Renden LeMasters of Dexter died following the Saturday fire. He was a senior in the College of Technology. University President Susan Martin said in a statement his death was a "tragic loss."

Assistant Fire Chief Greg Hollingsworth says it appears seven people in their early 20s were inside the home at the time of the 5:30 a.m. fire.

AnnArbor.com reports one of the injured was released from the University of Michigan Hospital and a third person was in critical condition. The hospital said Saturday night updated patient information wasn't being released.
