This weekend in Lansing, boaters and rowers enact an ornate tradition dating back millennia: dragon boating. Dragon boats are long, decorated watercraft with up to 20 paddlers.

Saturday and Sunday, the Womens Center of Greater Lansing hosts the city’s Capital City Dragon Boat race, based at Adado Riverfront Park.

Current State talks with Lansing’s resident dragon boat specialist, Rob Flanders. He recently returned from the world championship dragon boat races in Italy, and he’s the captain of the Anahata Dragon Boat team that’s racing this weekend.
