Detroit Red Wings to open regular season in Sweden

By AP

DETROIT – The Red Wings will face Pittsburgh twice this season, coming off the Penguins' Game 7 victory last month that denied Detroit a second straight Stanley Cup championship.

The Red Wings released their 2009-2010 schedule on Wednesday.

Detroit will open the regular season Oct. 2-3 with two games against the St. Louis Blues in Stockholm, Sweden. The Red Wings' opener at Joe Louis Arena is Oct. 8 against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Detroit twice will meet the Penguins during the regular season, Jan. 31 in Pittsburgh and March 22 at Joe Louis. An exhibition match in Detroit is set for Sept. 27.

Other highlights of the Red Wings' schedule include an Oct. 10 game against the Washington Capitals and a New Year's Eve match against the Colorado Avalanche, both at home.
