LANSING, MI –
Lawyer Richard Bernstein has launched a campaign to convince Democrats to nominate him to run for state attorney general. Bernstein is legally blind, and has been an activist for the rights of the disabled. He is from a prominent family of litigators. He says he would bring the values he's fought for in court to the job of attorney general.
"I'm an individual who fights against powerful interests, powerful corporations, against municipalities if they don't do what they're supposed to do," he says. "Basically, the entire emphasis of my campaign, and the entire emphasis of my spirit and the entire reason why I'm doing this in the first place is because I want to make a basic difference in the lives of individuals and people."
Bernstein is facing Genessee County Prosecutor David Leyton in the race for the nomination. They have about six weeks to make their case to Democrats who will attend a special endorsement convention on April 17.
The convention will also endorse a candidate for secretary of state. In that race, Wayne State University law professor is facing Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey.
