The state Senate has approved legislation to overhaul the way Michigan issues concealed pistol licenses.

The bills sailed through the Senate – and were the first to clear the chamber this session. That’s after Governor Rick Snyder vetoed similar legislation last month over concerns it would put domestic abuse victims in danger.
Republican state Senator Mike Green says that controversial language is no longer part of the bills.
“Everything that’s in that bill has been scrutinized by the State Police and they’re very comfortable with everything that we did,” he says.
All but one Democrat voted against the legislation. Opponents say it threatens local control, and that there is no problem with the way concealed pistol licenses are issued.
