Absentee ballots are still coming in in Lansing, where voters will choose a new mayor and four city council members Tuesday.
Chief Deputy City Clerk Brian P. Jackson says almost 7,000 absentee ballots were requested by Lansing voters. He says most of those ballots have already been turned in. "We still have 1,000 ballots out there," Jackson explains, "so will those be dropped off, which they can do up to 8 o'clock at night, or will they go to the precinct instead, or just not bother to vote?".
Jackson says the city expects 20 or 25-percent of Lansing’s eligible voters to cast ballots in this year’s election. About one-third of the ballots received will have been cast by absentee voters.
