"Boil Water" advisory in Okemos

By Scott Pohl, WKAR

Okemos, MI –

A "boil water" alert has been issued for the south side of Okemos, following a water system testing error.

The problem led officials to close Okemos High School on Wednesday.

Meridian Township Water customers who live south of Bennett Road and Kinawa Drive, including Aleidon Township, should boil water for five minutes before use. The alert applies to water used for drinking and cooking, not for bathing or laundry. That advisory is in effect until midnight Thursday.

Along with the closing of the high school, bottled water is being sent to schools in the area by the Lansing Board of Water and Light.

Some bottled water was being distributed Wednesday behind the south Okemos Road fire station.

WKAR’s first live pledge drive since federal funding was eliminated is happening now. Our goal for the drive is $60,000 and reaching it will bring us one step closer to closing the federal funding gap.
