Bernero questions Dillon's response on health care

By AP

LANSING, MI –

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero is questioning why his main opponent in the Democratic race for governor isn't more supportive of the new federal health care law.

Bernero said in a Thursday news release that House Speaker Andy Dillon's measured support of the changes puts him close to being in the same camp as Republicans such as Attorney General Mike Cox, who's challenging the law in court. Cox also is running for governor.

Dillon spokesman Ken Coleman issued a statement rebutting Bernero's charges and saying Dillon supports the new federal law.

He says Dillon is merely concerned about how the state will deal with the complex measure because Michigan residents "are desperately wanting a thoughtful approach" to how it gets implemented.
