Nearly 300,000 Asian-Americans call Michigan home. The racial group includes dozens of cultures, languages, business and professional success stories. And struggles, such as school bullying.
May is Asian Pacific American Heritage month. The month was chosen to mark the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States in May of 1843. And to mark the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.
According to the US Census, Asian-Americans are the fastest growing racial group in America.
In Michigan, there are nearly 300,000 Asian-Americans.
