The Amtrak train station just off the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing is getting a major renovation. The Capital Area Transportation Authority has received a $6.3 million federal grant to rebuild the station and add a separate bus terminal.
Last week, the Michigan Department of Transportation announced that it plans to study the viability of a passenger rail service that would connect Holland, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Detroit. The study has been mandated in the state’s 2015 budget.
The station, just south of East Lansing’s existing Amtrak facility will incorporate rail, city, regional and national bus lines in one large modern locale.
The Multi Modal Gateway is slated to open this July, which is earlier than originally expected.
