CHICAGO – Jay Cutler threw two touchdown passes and ran for another, and the Chicago Bears pulled away in the second half to beat the Detroit Lions 48-24 on Sunday after they snapped their 19-game losing streak last week.
Matt Forte ran for 121 yards, rookie Johnny Knox returned a kickoff 102 yards and the Bears headed into their bye with their third straight win.
DETROIT – The Detroit Free Press reports that census takers have a harder time accurately counting residents in Detroit than in other large cities.
Two recent estimates of the city's population showed a 17.3 percent difference.
While all cities show some variance in the two estimates, no other city in the top 25 in the United States showed a comparable difference. Most large cities showed differences between the estimates of less than 3 percent.

LANSING, MI – The state Legislature gave itself one more month to finalize a budget deal. And much of the discussion in October is expected to hinge on the K-12 budget - the only budget the House and Senate did not approve.
Governor Granholm says she will pick and choose which budgets to veto. And she says lawmakers must start evaluating new revenue options to fund programs vital to the state.
LANSING, MI – Lansing city officials say the New Lansing City Market is on target to open the first of December. But the scope of the project has changed. The New Market will be smaller than originally proposed and have fewer amenities.
DETROIT – Michigan State University officially opened its Detroit Center Thursday afternoon. The center, located just north of downtown, will house programs for the College of Education and the Community Music School. Office for admissions and government affairs will also be housed there.
DETROIT – Red Wings general manager Ken Holland says he knew his team was one of the NHL's best a year ago.
Now, Holland hopes that's still the case.
Detroit fell one victory short of repeating as NHL champions in June, losing to Pittsburgh in a Stanley Cup finals rematch. Since then, the salary cap prevented the Red Wings from keeping star Marian Hossa, other key players and their backup goaltender.
DETROIT, MI – Scott Baker had a strong start and got plenty of run support with a three-run third inning and a four-run eighth, helping the Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 8-3 Thursday to avoid elimination from playoff contention.
The AL Central-leading Tigers had a chance to clinch their first division title since 1987 in the finale of the four-game series, but their bats were quieted and their pitchers got roughed up.
